Founded 1961 Patron: H.R.H. Princess Lilian, Duchess of Halland
In 1961, the founding member, Sissi Rasmussen, and 9 other young wives and mothers new to Sweden met through school and social circles and became friends. They realized that they all faced the same challenges in living abroad. They wanted to share their experiences, learn from each other and most of all meet and make friends during the shorter or longer time they lived in Stockholm. This is how the IWC Stockholm was born. The word spread quickly, the club quickly grew into a unique international society with regular lunches featuring prominent speakers or performances. Introduction to Swedish culture was established through these lunches, coffee mornings, afternoon teas and visits to art exhibitions. The same applies still today. At the same time the other important aspect of the club, charity work, took off. This remains an important part of the Club’s activity.
Today IWC have 350 members representing 60 different nationalities. Since 1982 we had the honour of having Her Royal Highness Princess Lilian, Duchess of Halland, as our club´s patron until she passed away in 2013.
IWC stands for International Women’s Club
The club´s purpose is to welcome newcomers to Stockholm and provide them with a platform for creating networks among the foreign and local communities.
The other major activity is helping the needy whenever we can, both internationally and locally. Every year the club organises three Charity events in October, December and March. These charities are carefully chosen by the IWC´s Executive Board. The club´s philanthropic activities receive kind and generous support from the Swedish Royal Family, embassies and many companies.
This year was the Christmas lunch with a Charity auction held on the 2nd of December 2021 at Odd Fellow in the center of Stockholm.
